Russian cbank warns about fake Mir card malware offers

MOSCOW, Aug 7 (PRIME) -- Russia’s central bank has warned users about fraudsters sending out e-mails with an offer to fill in a form and receive a card of the national payment system Mir, while a virus is downloaded on a computer, the regulator’s press service said Friday.

“Such messages contain a description of options of the payment system Mir and a proposal to get the system’s card by filling in a form in the enclosure. And the executable code allows violators to upload malicious software of various aims on the client’s computer,” the central bank said.

Fishing messages are sent on behalf of big organizations, from an address that could belong to a really existing bank. The regulator interprets such mailout as a new form of fraud.

A striking feature of malicious messages is a list of a great deal of advantages of the payment system in the text, including a direct access to cryptocurrencies.

The central bank calls on recipients of these messages do not open attachments and do not resend them, but notify the client service of a credit organization.
